Signs

Custom PVC Signs

PVC signs are printed on expanded PVC board, a smooth, lightweight rigid plastic (expanded PVC board), and used for lobby signs, menu boards, directional signs, trade-show panels and sheltered outdoor signs. Offices, restaurants, clinics, schools and retailers choose it when a sign needs a flat, finished face without the weight of metal. Send your size, single or double sided, the thickness you prefer and your artwork, and the quote confirms the board available.

What PVC sign board is and where to use it

Expanded PVC board is a foamed plastic sheet with a closed, smooth skin on both faces, so it is far lighter than solid plastic or metal yet holds a flat, rigid shape. The sign is cut from a sheet on a CNC router or flatbed cutter and printed directly on the face with UV-cured inks. Because the surface is matte and even, small text, photographs and fine logo detail print cleanly, which is why menu boards and lobby signs use it.

Three millimetres is the usual board for signs up to about 24 x 36 in that hang on a wall, sit in a frame or stand on an easel. Go to 6 mm when the panel is larger, is handled often or stands on its own, because the thicker board resists bowing. Keep the artwork within one 4 x 8 ft sheet or ask about joining panels. Your quote confirms the thicknesses and colours on hand.

PVC signs are light enough for foam mounting tape, hook-and-loop strips or picture hooks, and stiff enough for screws through drilled holes or standoff mounts that hold the sign off the wall for a finished reception look. Double-sided panels hang from a ceiling on wire or sit in a slot base on a counter. Contour-cut shapes, such as an arrow or a logo outline, hang the same way as a rectangle.

Expanded PVC does not absorb water, so it is fine under a porch roof, in an entryway or on a covered patio, and it wipes clean. Long exposure to direct sun can yellow the board and soften it in heat, so for signs that face the weather for years, aluminum is the more suitable material. Indoors a PVC sign keeps its look for years, with a laminate adding scratch protection where people brush past it.

Options for pvc signs

Thickness

3 mm board is the common choice for wall, frame and easel signs up to about 24 x 36 in. 6 mm resists bowing on larger panels, counter displays and signs that are handled often. The quote confirms what is in stock.

Contour cutting

The board is cut to the outline of your artwork: an arrow, a logo shape, a number or lettering, so the sign reads as a shape rather than a rectangle.

Standoffs and hanging

Drilled holes take screws or standoff mounts that hold the sign a short distance off the wall for a lobby look; double-sided panels hang from a ceiling on wire or sit in a slot base on a counter.

Laminate

A matte or gloss laminate over the print adds scratch protection where people brush past the sign and makes a menu board easier to wipe down.

How ordering works: quote, digital proof, print, then delivery to the USA or Canada. Nothing prints until you approve the proof.

FAQ

PVC Signs: questions answered

Still unsure? Ask a printing specialist.

What is PVC sign board?
It is expanded (foamed) PVC sheet with a smooth skin on both sides, sold in thicknesses such as 3 mm and 6 mm and sold as expanded PVC board. It is lighter than solid plastic or metal, cuts cleanly to shape and takes direct full-colour printing.
Can PVC signs be used outdoors?
In sheltered spots, yes: under an awning, in an entryway or on a covered patio, because the board does not absorb water. For a sign in full sun and weather for years, aluminum holds up better; tell us the location and we suggest the material.
Which PVC sign thickness should I choose?
3 mm for most wall, frame and easel signs up to about 24 x 36 in; 6 mm for larger panels, counter displays and anything handled often. Your quote confirms the thickness in stock for your size.
Can a PVC sign be cut to a shape?
Yes. The board is contour cut to the outline of your artwork, such as an arrow, a logo or a number, and the digital proof shows the cut line at final size before the sign is made.
Does a PVC sign come with a holder or post?
Mounting hardware is quoted as a separate line: standoffs, drilled holes for screws, a slot base for a counter, or an A-frame or post for outdoor use. Say how the sign is displayed on the quote form and the hardware is added.
