X-banner or retractable stand: which one to pick

An X-banner stand has three parts: a center pole, four flexible arms that spread into an X, and the printed graphic with a grommet in each corner. The arms hook into the grommets and the tension keeps the print flat. There is no cassette, so the graphic rolls up separately and the frame folds to the size of a closed umbrella.

Compared with a retractable (roll-up) stand, an X-banner is lighter, cheaper to replace and quicker to change between events, because swapping the message only means printing a new sheet with four grommets. A retractable stand protects the print inside its base and looks more finished from the side, so it is the better choice for a stand that travels to many shows. Many exhibitors use both: retractables at the front of the booth and X-banners at the door of a breakout room or a registration desk.

Design for the size of the frame. Keep text away from the four corners, where the arms cross the graphic, and put the logo and the main line in the top half, where people look first. A 24 x 63 in stand suits a single message and a QR code; a 32 x 71 in stand carries a short agenda or a list of services.

What size is an X-banner?

The most common frames are 24 x 63 in and about 32 x 71 in (80 x 180 cm). The graphic is cut to the frame with the grommets placed where the arms hook in. If you own frames already, tell us the size or send a photo.

Is an X-banner the same as a roll-up banner?

No. A roll-up (retractable) banner rolls into an aluminum base. An X-banner hangs on a folding X frame from four corner grommets. Both stand on the floor beside a booth or an entrance; the X-banner is lighter and the graphic is easier to swap.

Can I order just the print for my own X frame?

Yes. Give us the frame size, or measure between the hooks, and we print the graphic with grommets placed to fit.

Are X-banners stable enough for a busy conference?

They are fine indoors on a flat floor out of the main walkway. For a crowded aisle or an outdoor space, a retractable stand with a weighted base or a feather flag with a water base is steadier.
