Custom Teardrop Flags

A teardrop flag is a fabric flag stretched over a curved pole that pulls the panel taut at the top and the bottom, so it keeps its shape in wind and shows the artwork flat instead of fluttering. Golf courses, car dealers, outdoor retailers, race organisers and resorts use it where a feather flag would flap too much or where a logo must stay readable. Send the height, sides, the surface it stands on and your artwork, and the quote lists the flag, the pole kit and the base.

Teardrop flags: how they hold their shape and where they work

The teardrop panel is cut wide at the top and tapers to a point at the bottom. Its curved edge has a sleeve that slides over the top section of the pole, which bends into an arc; a bungee loop at the bottom tip hooks to the pole and pulls the fabric tight. The print is dye sublimation into knitted polyester, so the colour sits inside the fibre and the panel stays light enough to be tensioned by hand.

Because the panel is held taut, the whole area is readable, so a teardrop flag suits a large logo or a photograph more than running text. Keep the artwork inside the widest part of the drop and leave the tip for a background colour. Height follows the setting: 7 to 9 ft for a booth, a patio or a golf tee; 11 to 13 ft for a lot edge or a driveway. Tell us how far away people see it and we suggest a size.

Setup is the same as a feather flag with one extra step: after the sleeve is on and the pole is in the base, the bungee at the tip is hooked onto the pole to tension the panel. A ground spike holds it in grass or sand; a cross base with a water bag or a weighted tyre base holds it on pavement, decks and indoor floors. The flag rotates with the wind on the base. Take it down in storms.

Tension is what wears a teardrop flag: the sleeve and the tip take the strain, so they are the parts to check each season. The dye-sublimated colour resists fading through months of sun, and the fabric can be washed cold and air dried. When the panel looks worn, a print-only replacement goes onto the same pole kit, which is why the quote lists the flag, the pole and the base as separate lines.

Options for teardrop flags

Single or double sided

Single sided shows the design through the back as a mirror image, which suits a logo. Double sided sews two panels around a blockout liner so text and phone numbers read correctly from both sides.

Base

A ground spike for grass and sand, a cross base with a water bag for pavement and indoor floors, or a weighted tyre base for windy lots. Say where the flag stands and the base is quoted.

Pole kit or print only

The flag, the curved pole kit and the base are separate lines on the quote, so a replacement panel can be ordered later for the pole kit you keep.

Panel size

Teardrop panels are wider at the top than a feather flag, so a round or square logo fills the shape. Send the logo and we show it placed on the panel in the proof.

How ordering works: quote, digital proof, print, then delivery to the USA or Canada. Nothing prints until you approve the proof.

FAQ

Teardrop Flags: questions answered

Still unsure? Ask a printing specialist.

What is the difference between a teardrop flag and a feather flag?
A teardrop flag is tensioned on a curved pole so the panel stays flat and the logo stays readable in wind; a feather flag is taller and narrower and moves more, which draws the eye from further away. Choose teardrop for a logo, feather for a tall message.
Does a teardrop flag come with a pole and base?
The quote lists the printed flag, the curved pole kit and the base as separate lines, so a first order includes everything and a later order can be the flag alone for a kit you already own.
Can a teardrop flag be double sided?
Yes. Two printed panels are sewn around a blockout liner so both sides read correctly. A single-sided flag shows the design through the back as a mirror image, which works for a logo but not for a phone number.
Will a teardrop flag stay readable in wind?
That is what the shape is for: the bungee at the tip keeps the panel taut, so it does not flap or wrap around the pole. In storms and very high winds take any flag down, because the pole flexes and the base can tip.
What size teardrop flag should I order?
About 7 to 9 ft for a booth, patio or golf tee, and 11 to 13 ft for a lot edge, a driveway or a beach entrance. Give the viewing distance and the surface it stands on and we suggest a size and base.
