Signs

Foam Board Signs & Prints

Foam board signs are full-colour prints on a light rigid board with a foam core between two smooth faces, used indoors for easel signs, event and wedding boards, presentation prints, retail displays and trade-show panels. Event planners, marketers, schools and real estate agents order them when a sign must look flat and finished for a day or a season. Send the size, the number of boards and your artwork, and the quote confirms the board thickness.

Foam board prints: how they are made and where they belong

Foam board is a sandwich: a core of polystyrene foam between two smooth facing sheets, so a 24 x 36 in board weighs only a few ounces and stays flat. The artwork is printed directly onto the face with flatbed inks, or printed on photo paper and mounted to the board under pressure. The board is trimmed to the final size after printing, so the edges are clean and the image can run to the edge without a border.

24 x 36 in is the size most people search for, and it stands on a standard easel at the entrance to an event. 18 x 24 in suits a tabletop or a smaller easel; 36 x 48 in or larger is for a stage or a trade-show wall. 3/16 in paper-faced board is the usual choice for one-day events, while a PVC-faced board resists dents and wipes clean for displays that stay up for a season. Your quote confirms what is available.

Most foam board signs stand on an easel, lean on a shelf or hang on a wall with hook-and-loop tabs or double-sided tape, and larger panels sit in a frame or on a display stand. Carry boards flat or in a sleeve, because a corner knock dents the foam and does not come out. For a photo exhibit or a conference with many boards, number the files to match the layout so the proofs and the boards are easy to check against each other.

Foam board is for indoors or a covered area for a day. Moisture swells the paper faces and heat bows the board, so it is not a material for a window in sun or for a lawn. Kept dry and out of direct sun, a board lasts through a season of events and can be stored flat between them. If the sign must survive rain or sun, choose PVC board or aluminum instead and keep foam board for the hall.

Options for foam board signs

Board face

Paper-faced foam core is the usual board for one-day events and presentations. PVC-faced foam board resists dents and wipes clean, which suits displays that stay up for a season.

Finish

Matte is the standard finish and avoids glare under event lighting and camera flash. Gloss or a laminate deepens photographs and protects boards that are handled or reused.

Cut shape

Boards are cut square as standard. Ask for rounded corners, or a contour cut around a logo, a number or a silhouette for a photo prop or a directional sign.

Easels and stands

Tabletop and floor easels, and display stands for larger panels, are quoted as separate lines so you can reuse what you already own.

How ordering works: quote, digital proof, print, then delivery to the USA or Canada. Nothing prints until you approve the proof.

FAQ

Foam Board Signs: questions answered

Still unsure? Ask a printing specialist.

Can I get foam board printed at 24 x 36 in?
Yes. 24 x 36 in is the most common foam board size and fits a standard floor easel. 18 x 24 in, 22 x 28 in and 36 x 48 in are also standard, and boards can be cut to a custom size within a 48 x 96 in sheet.
How quickly can foam board signs be printed?
Put your in-hands date on the quote form. The quote confirms the production time for your size and quantity, and a digital proof at final size is sent before printing so approval is the only step on your side.
Can foam board signs be used outside?
Not for long. Moisture swells the paper faces and heat bows the board, so foam board belongs indoors or under cover for a day. For rain or sun, choose PVC board for a season or aluminum for years.
What is foam board made of and how thick is it?
A polystyrene foam core between two smooth paper or plastic faces. 3/16 in (about 5 mm) is the usual thickness, with 3 mm and PVC-faced boards as options. Your quote confirms the board for your order.
Do foam board prints ship to Canada and the USA?
Yes. Boards are packed flat with corner protection and shipped to addresses in all US states and Canadian provinces. Pick your country on the quote form and the quote includes delivery to your postal code.
