Pole Banners
A pole banner is a double-sided vinyl banner with a pocket at the top and bottom that slides onto the arms of a bracket mounted to a light pole or lamp post. Towns, business improvement districts, universities, shopping centres and churches use them in rows along a street or walkway for seasons, festivals and wayfinding. Send the banner size, the arm diameter of your brackets and your artwork, and you receive a quote with a digital proof at final size before printing.

How pole banners are made, sized and hung
Read more
A pole banner is printed on blockout vinyl, an 18 oz material with an opaque layer between the two printable faces, so the front and back are printed separately and neither shows through in sunlight. The top and bottom edges are folded into deep pockets and sewn with two rows of stitching, because the pockets carry the whole load on the bracket arms. A grommet in each pocket corner takes a tie that locks the banner to the arm.
Measure the hardware before the artwork. The width of a pole banner is set by the bracket arm length, often 24 or 30 in, and the height by the distance between the top and bottom brackets. If the poles are not yet fitted, choose the banner size first and order bracket sets to match. Keep the design simple: one logo, a few words and a strong background colour, because the banner is read from a moving car.
Installation is done from a lift or ladder: the brackets are banded to the pole, the arms slide into the pockets and the ties go through the corner grommets. Street banners are usually hung in matching pairs on opposite sides of the road, or in a repeated sequence of two or three designs along a block. Lighting districts and campuses often need permission from the pole owner before anything is hung.
Blockout vinyl and UV-resistant inks are chosen for a season or more on a pole. The pockets and the ties take the wear, which is why double stitching, grommets and, on exposed streets, wind slits matter. Banners come down, roll up and go back up for the next year's event; a digital proof at final size for each side is checked before printing so the change-over is straightforward.
Options for pole banners
Pocket size
Pole pockets are sewn to fit the arms of your brackets, usually for 1 in or 1.25 in diameter arms, and the pocket depth sets how much of the banner height is lost at top and bottom. Measure the arm diameter and the distance between the arms before you send artwork.
Bracket sets
A bracket set is two cast or formed brackets that band to the pole, each with a fibreglass arm that holds the banner out from the pole. Ask for sets with the banners if your poles are not yet fitted; the quote lists them as a separate line.
Wind slits and reinforced pockets
On a wide street or an exposed campus, wind slits in the lower half and a second row of stitching on the pockets reduce flapping and wear. They are worth asking for on banners that stay up through a season of weather.
Grommets for ties
A grommet in each corner of the pocket edge takes a zip tie around the arm, which stops the banner sliding off the arm in wind. Most street banner programs ask for them as standard.
How ordering works: quote, digital proof, print, then delivery to the USA or Canada. Nothing prints until you approve the proof.
