Tension Fabric Displays & Pop-Up Backdrop Walls

A tension fabric display is a booth back wall made of a printed stretch-fabric sleeve pulled over a lightweight aluminum tube frame, so it sets up without tools and the graphic stays smooth and wrinkle-free. It is the standard backdrop for a 10 x 10 or 10 x 20 ft trade show booth and for the stage wall at a conference or summit. Send the booth size, straight or curved, and your artwork for a quote with a proof of the full wall.

How a tension fabric wall works

The frame is a set of numbered aluminum tubes joined by push buttons. Assembled, it forms the outline of the wall, straight or curved, standing on two or more feet. The printed fabric is sewn into a sleeve like a pillowcase: it slides down over the frame and zips closed along the bottom, and the stretch pulls it tight so there are no creases even after the wall has been folded in its bag.

Dye sublimation prints the colour into the polyester rather than on top of it, so the wall has a matte finish with no glare under stage lights or camera flash, and the sleeve can be washed. That matte finish is why fabric walls look good in photos and on livestreams from conferences and summits.

Size the wall to the booth. A 10 x 10 ft booth takes a 10 ft wall; an 8 ft wall leaves room for a stand at one side. A 10 x 20 ft booth takes a 20 ft wall, or two 10 ft walls that can be split for smaller shows. Check the exhibitor manual for the maximum back-wall height; 8 ft is the usual limit for in-line booths.

Keep the main message above table height, roughly 3 ft from the floor upward, because a table and people will cover the bottom of the wall. Give us the show date on the quote form and we confirm what can be produced and shipped in time.

Options for tension fabric displays

Straight or curved

A straight wall gives the most usable width for text and a TV mount. A curved wall looks more finished from the aisle and wraps the booth slightly. Both use the same fabric and frame system.

Single or double sided

Single-sided sleeves have a white back for walls against a booth divider. Double-sided sleeves are printed on both faces for island booths, stage walls seen from behind, or room dividers.

Add-ons

End caps, a matching counter wrap, monitor brackets and shipping cases can be quoted with the wall. Ask on the quote form and we confirm which add-ons fit the frame.

Backlit walls

For a glowing booth wall, a backlit frame with LED lighting behind a fabric graphic can be quoted. Tell us on the form and we confirm the frame, the power requirements and the timing.

How ordering works: quote, digital proof, print, then delivery to the USA or Canada. Nothing prints until you approve the proof.

FAQ

Tension Fabric Displays: questions answered

Still unsure? Ask a printing specialist.

What size backdrop do I need for a 10 x 10 booth?
A 10 ft wide wall, about 7.5 to 8 ft high, fills the back of a standard 10 x 10 ft booth. Check the show's exhibitor manual for the height limit; in-line booths usually allow up to 8 ft.
Is a tension fabric display the same as a pop-up display?
Both are portable back walls. A traditional pop-up uses a folding scissor frame with panels or fabric hooked on; a tension fabric display uses a tube frame with a fabric sleeve. The tube frame is lighter and has fewer parts, which is why most new booth walls are tension fabric.
Will the fabric wrinkle?
Stretch fabric is pulled taut by the frame, so folding creases fall out when it is zipped on. If a crease remains after a long trip, a few minutes with a garment steamer removes it.
Can I reuse the frame with a new graphic?
Yes. The frame lasts for many shows. Order a new printed sleeve when the message changes, and tell us the frame size so it fits.
Can one person set it up?
Usually yes for an 8 or 10 ft wall: connect the numbered tubes, stand the frame on its feet and pull the sleeve over it. A 20 ft wall is easier with two people.
